why to expect

Eight years ago, we went to the drawing board and started thinking about you. You as the player, a family or friend supporting, and as a fan of badminton. At DNVR BOTB, you will see some of these ideas come to life. Of course, in their first appearance, they might not be in perfect form, and you might only see a few of the many implementations we expect to integrate. However, we are working day and night to improve the experience for EVERYONE who attends Colorado's finest competition this March. Check out some of the ways we're changing Colorado badminton, below...

frequently asked questions

WHAT IS DNVR BOTB

DNVR is our brand. We're based out of Denver, Colorado, and we're here to change the culture of competition for badminton players. One of the ways we're doing this is with our annual BOTB competitions. BOTB stands for "Best of the Best," and we're ready to pay them out. In this tournament, everyone who registers, plays in the same bracket. If you want to win, you have to beat the best of the best.

how do i win

BOTB tournament brackets are heightened double elimination, which means that the more you win, the more pressure you're under. The bracket is split into two parts, a first half and a second half. In the first half, it is true double elimination, meaning you have to lose twice to be eliminated. Once we cross the halfway point in the bracket, you will hear a noise through the speakers indicating that the bracket has entered the playoff phase(second half). Once we enter the playoff phase, it's sudden death. From here on out, if you lose, you're out.

what do i get if i win

At DNVR, we value the hard work it takes to be the best. As the winning team, you'll receive premium, weighted laser-engraved glass trophies, laser-engraved medallions, and $200 in cash. Our social media team will interview you and feature you on all of our social media platforms. In addition, we'll edit and create highlights of your finals match for you and your supporters to enjoy.

my friends and family don't know much about badminton. will they have fun

We spent 8 years developing ways to make the experience more enjoyable for every person who walks in on game day. Not only are tickets free for spectators, but we're also giving away free stuff. Family and friends can compete on our Challenger's Court, where we hold new mini challenges every hour and award the highest score. Guests can have an impact on the games by voting, which determines who gets the ball and what side each team starts on. Free Yonex merchandise will be given to the winner of our raffle, as well. It'll be Christmas in March for everyone, and an estimated $700 worth of prizes will be given away to players and guests. You're welcome.

will the competition be fair

We have a team of experienced umpires and line judges who will oversee the competition. All leveled and playoff games will be overseen by an umpire, and finals games will be officiated by DNVR-certified umpires and line judges. You can find additional rules and regulations under the 'Tournament Rules' tab at the top of this page.

why is registration $20 more than the other tournaments

Our goal is to improve the quality of competition in Colorado. Our tournaments are heightened double elimination, which means players will play more during the tournament. This, in turn, makes the tournaments longer, which increases the cost of the venue. We're also offering something more local, which also means the venues will generally be more expensive. To give players more value, we assembled an officiating crew of 17 umpires and referees, hired 3 media teams, ordered premium glass medals and trophies, invested in game-recording equipment and software, included a $400 pool cash prize, and bought an 8' by 8' banner to take pictures throughout the day, which all adds to our cost of hosting. We wanted to improve the experience for all your family and friends who come to support, so we invested in software to let them vote and determine who serves first, developed a program for guests to make bracket predictions, prepared a new feature we call the Challenger's Court where your friends & family can learn the game and compete in mini-challenges to win prizes, and are giving away $300 worth of Yonex backpacks and DNVR merchandise to them for FREE. DNVR is not profiting from this event, so please understand that the cost is not for us to make money. In fact, we're taking extra money out of our pockets to deliver even more features for you and your guests, but you'll have to see to find out.

why is the form asking so many questions

One of our biggest goals is to improve spectator experience, which includes introducing the players to spectators. We try to keep our questions surface-level, but if you feel that any of the questions are too personal then please put "n/a" instead so we know not to include that information in the introduction. If you do answer the questions, your answers are secure and will not be shared with any third-party organizations.
